On-Line Zoom Workshop

Join Rashelle Celestin and members of the Spirit of Ma’at as they bring you a new fusion workshop with a deeper twist.

In this first of it’s kind workshop Rachelle draws on her Haitian heritage to fuse Haitian voodoo dance movements with traditional belly dance.  Unlike many mainstream representations around magic and rituals, Voodoo is a religion based on ancestral spirits and patron saints.

This workshop is designed to educate, pay homage to, and have a little fun. Dancers will not be summoning spirits, but will take some movements performed at actual ceremonies and fuse them with Afrobeats.

Focus will be on loving and moving your body.  Rachelle designed this workshop to put a little “stank” on some choreography, while embracing the meaning and origin of the movements.

The first half of class will break down belly dance technique and introduce the specific moves “zepol” and the “mayi”.

The second half of the workshop will introduce a short choreography incorporating movements from both movement styles.

Participants can expect to learn some new moves and have a ton of fun!
